Saratoga Originals: Corry Loveday, Lucas Garrett, Carolyn Rose
Saratoga Originals features professional musicians and songwriters from the our region performing their original music for a room of attentive listeners. On September 13th, Caffe Lena welcomes Corry Loveday, Lucas Garrett, and Carolyn Shapiro.
Corry Loveday is a songwriter with a voice that pulls at your gut, lyrics that capture your ear, and songs with an observant, honest charm. Corry's songs are about the quirky moments when we fall in love, the imaginary stories of strangers on a train, or calls for action with a political voice. He fuses elements of pop, contemporary jazz, and Soul/R&B to create a deep, diverse repertoire. Corry began performing at Caffe Lena's open mic and now has played at venues all along the east coast such as Madam's Organ in D.C. and Silvana's and Pianos of NYC.
Lucas Garrett is a Glens Falls-based musician who has played professionally for over seven years. In this time, he has incorporated his unique blend of progressive rock, folk, classic rock, and indie to create a set list that audiences enjoy time and time again. Lucas has gained the attention of many, releasing his debut EP, "Evening's Come, But it's Not Dark," (2017), and his LP "Love is Better," (2019). Armed with a "rumbling baritone," and songs that are "sneaky with unexpected turns and inventive instrumentation," (Amy Biancolli, Times Union), people of all ages are able to enjoy his music, on and off the stage.
You all know Carolyn Shapiro as the Marketing & House Manager at Caffe Lena. But now you can experience a whole new side of her, as a singer-songwriter. Carolyn is a banjo player whose sound is rooted in the old-songs of Appalachia. Trained in the clawhammer style of banjo by Trish Miller & John Kirk, Carolyn is dedicated to upholding the folk traditions of the past. As a songwriter, she blends these Appalachian-style ballads with her own sultry flavor. Her songs feel both familiar yet entirely new, with honest lyrics that are inspired by the world around her.
